A native of Minnesota, I currently call the Olympic Peninsula of Washington home. I grew up with real estate, along with meat and potatoes at the table we also had the phone. When it did not ring, we would listen to our parents recap their day as owners of an independently run multi-faceted real estate company. My free time growing up was cleaning out homes to ready for sale - or clearing debris and mowing vacant land.
During college, the routine was the same - class, study, and property management of the commercial properties owned or listed by my father's firm in the town where I went to school. A need to experience a different career path after college resulted in a 17-year stint away from real estate and led to industrial sales, product management and research & development. This time allowed me to experience small, midsize, and large corporate companies, travel nationally and internationally.
Using these experiences, I came back to manage the family business. Specialization in any one field of real estate was a luxury in this small southern Minnesota town. Growing the firm meant developing skills necessary to understand and compete for listings and sales in agriculture, residential, land, multi-family, and commercial real estate. Having this knowledge and skills, transferred to successfully recruiting agents to work in their desired areas of real estate and succeed.
After 25 years in this role, a new opportunity emerged with the Brody Broker Team - IDEAL Real Estate. As a Managing Broker I continue to hone my skills, just in a different and unique environment to the one I left back in Minnesota. The primary challenge here is the development of a commercial real estate division for this new office.
